The nervous system is the “master system” of the body. It controls and coordinates all body functions from the most basic to the most complex.
The brain, spinal cord, and nerves transmit messages that we receive from the outside environment and internal organs, which allow the body to respond and adapt appropriately. When these messages are disrupted, the body can lose optimum function and resistance and become vulnerable to disease.
Chiropractic care focuses on the function of the nervous system through its specific care of the spine. The spine can affect the nervous system because the spinal cord is protected and surrounded by the spinal bones, and nerve roots in the body must exit through passageways created by the structure and relationship of the spinal bones to each other.
If the spine isn’t in proper alignment, malfunction can occur and the nearby nerves can suffer interference. This is what chiropractors call vertebral subluxation complex (VSC).
